An interview with DJ Legato:
How did you get started as a DJ?
My best friend bought me a Hercules DJ Console as a gift to play music whenever friends come over to hangout. As time proceeded I would stay up all hours of the night practicing and learning the basics of being a DJ.
Where is your favorite club to perform at in Miami?
I have played at a few but I must say my favorite would be Dream.
What club brings in the finest ladies?
Well playing in all the cities I have been to the only thing to say is women are beautiful all over the world!
How old where you when you got your first turn tables?
When I got my first pair of turntables I was 19 years old. They were the direct drive SV 2200’s by Gemini.
What separates you from other DJ’s?
A lot of deejay’s only want to perfect their craft with the music and crowd they are most comfortable with; for example hip-hop. I on the other hand can say some of my success has been achieved thinking way outside the box.
What sounds and artist got you into DJ’s?
Old school hip-hop was a big influence I feel like the early 90’s showed a lot more respect to the DJ then this generation of music does. Not saying there is not any respected DJ’s in the game but it is more work to be respected now a days. But like I always say, “hard work pays off.”
Who is your favorite Rapper?
I really don’t have a favorite because I appreciate all kinds of music and success but if I did have to choose it would definitely be The Notorious B.I.G.
What is one of your most memorable experiences as a DJ?
The most memorable moment I have experienced as a DJ has to be when I was asked to play Canada for the first time. I would never have thought my talents would touch the people of a international base. It definitely made me feel blessed.
Who is your favorite Mixed Magazine Model?
My favorite Mixed Magazine Model… Well I have two Kimmy Maxx & Tiffany Upshaw only because I know them personally and they are both wonderful women.
What’s the hottest song right now?
Chris Brown’s “Look at me Now” is heavy in the clubs right now.
What is your favorite song ever if you had to choose just one?
My favorite song ever if I had to choose one would be Mr. Cheeks “Lights, Camera, Action!”
Who will win the NBA Championship for 2011?
Of course I would want my Knicks to go all the way but I think the Lakers are going to take it again.
How could life for you get any better?
I am actually content right now my DJ career is up and rising my family and friends are healthy. Most of all people appreciate and respect the way I play. I guess the only thing that could get better in my life would be worldwide exposure.
Who is your favorite DJ of all time?
There are way too many I look up to so I really do not have a favorite.
Do you have a schedule where people can catch you do work on the ones and twos?
I get booked in many different venues in different cities I would suggest the only way to keep up is on my Twitter(@DjLegato).
What kind of headphones do you use?
I am currently using Monster Beats by Dr. Dre.
Thank you very much for taking the time to show us the skills!
