Joe Peffer – Miami Photographer

Joe Peffer Miami Photographer

Hello, My name is Joseph Peffer. I’m a 23 yr old photographer based out of Miami Fl. Born and raised in the Tampa Bay area, my time spent in Florida has been an extensive one. After joining the Army at the age 18 in early 2008, I soon realized that my passions for art and music were to strong to give into a job that suffocates the independent mind that questions everything! Which is just how I am. So, upon exiting the army in 2010, I spent some solitary time in the mountains of Burnsville, North Carolina. Soon after returning to Florida, I decided to attend to the Art Institute of Miami in Miami Dade. Not realizing within the first month attending, I would approach a photography studio without any experience or work to present, and was given my first opportunity as an intern. And well, the rest is history.

After that intense experience, I invested into a high quality camera of my own, and started doing test shoots for the agencies in Miami such as Wilhemina, Next and a few others including independent models. My work is not just limited to fashion or commercial, I have done weddings, live events, and even a backstage candid shoot of Linkin Park in Sydney. I started out doing Landscapes and nature, learning the techniques of harnessing natural light, which is what I use about %80 of the time. So i’m not just restricted to one genre, I enjoy all fields of study in photography, applying them all together in my current work.

Currently i’m working on some new projects for 2013, including works i’m submitting to Vogue Italia, and Playboy International publications. So theres quite an array of diversity.

An interview with Joe Peffer:

What three words best describes your photography?
Artistic, Intuitive, Unrefined

How long have you been a photographer?
1yr

How did you get your start?
After interning with another photographer for a long time, he told me it was time to approach the agencies, so I did. Now i’m doing my own thing.

What is your favorite lens to use?
I usually rent a Carl Zeiss Sonnar 24-70 f2.8 when I have to. Just resolves so nice and is ridiculously sharp.

Do you like to keep your techniques a secret or do you like to share with others?
I’m not stingy with what I know, but everyone knows photographers are like magicians, we don’t reveal our secrets, ever. But I can hint at a way to improve or point you in the right direction in learning new tricks on lighting and retouching. But we rarely explain how we do our work during the editing process. I think it helps preserve our styles.  And makes everyone learn from themselves, you are ultimately your best teacher.

Do you have a favorite location to shoot?
I enjoy the water and beach scenery. If it looks exotic, I dig it.

Who has been your favorite model to work with so far?
Theres so many, i’ve been very fortunate to have such great models to work with. But if I have to pick one, it would have to be Sonja Ewy.

Who would you love to shoot?
I tell everyone and they always agree, Alessandra Ambrosio.

Canon or Nikon?

Sony! haha. Thats right, the black sheep.

Do you bring Hairstylist and Make up artist to your shoots?

Actually no, I usually just have the models do natural, clean MU. Hair always ends up wet during my shoots on the beach, so I tell them don’t worry about it!

Do you find it challenging to be around such beautiful models?
Surprisingly no.

What is your favorite social network?
Facebook, not gonna lie, I was a huge Myspace fan back in the day, as they offered SO much more for all industries. It wasn’t until last year that I started using Facebook. Had no choice!

What do you love about Facebook and what do you hate about Facebook?
I love the fan pages, but I HATE how you can’t tell what’s showing up on everyones feed that maybe you don’t want on there. Oh, and when people purposely get you banned for a period of time that sucks too!

Do you use model mayhem?
Yes, not as frequent as I use to.

Do you think photographers get a bad rap?
Mostly yes, but I can see why that is haha. I’ve met a few that even made me cringe.

Who is your favorite photographer?

Russel James

Have you been able to travel alot?
Once won a trip to Sydney for Rockstar Week, sponsored by Russell James and Sir Richard Branson, that was insane. Than just the east coast of the states, but want to do more traveling.

Mac or PC?
Mac. I can see why its the industry standard.

What makes you different from the other photographers?
Age, choice in equipment, outlook on life and natural ability to just make any girl look like a super model. I seem to have an attraction to natural beauty, and it comes out through my work with very little effort.

Is there anything you want to express now that people should know about this business?
Its a lifestyle, not a job. You don’t get into this industry for the money, you get into because you love to do it, and it will consume your life, so you have to have the time for it. It is not an easy career, and a rather expensive one at that. But the results you achieve from having people acknowledge a piece of work you created from scratch makes it all worth it. Self satisfaction doesn’t have a price tag on it.

What is your ultimate goal as a photographer?
I would say to have free reign to create anything I wanted, and to get paid for it. Earning that respect and trust in the industry isn’t an instant thing, you have to pay many dues to get there. That is a common truth among I think most artists.

Lingerie Buying Guide

lingerie buying guide

With Valentine’s Day coming up, you might be thinking about buying yourself or your girlfriend some lingerie. Check out this buying guide on all of the different types of lingerie out there and see what works best for you. If you’re a guy shopping for lingerie, be sure to steal a quick look at your girl’s current pieces so you can get the sizing right. There is nothing worse than showing up with a lingerie gift that is one or two sizes too big. Once you know what you want, hop over to Adam & Eve, where you can find all of these options.

A baby doll is a short, flowy, frequently see through night gown. They typically come down to the top of the hip and have an empire waist. You can find these with lace, marabou, ruffles or bow applied or with loose tied backs. These are one of the most popular styles of lingerie. This look is great for anyone who isn’t fully comfortable with showing their stomach. And interestingly enough, the name originated from the 1956 movie Baby Doll, where the lead character, Carroll Baker is seen wearing them.

Teddies:

Lingerie Buying GuideUnlike the teddy bears you used to keep on your bed, these are sure to keep things hot and spicy between your sheets. A teddy has a similar shape to a one piece bathing suit or body suit, but is much sexier. They are typically shear or lace and also come in many different cut out forms. These are a great for every shape as they come in many different cuts. They can accomodate any size and allow you to cover as much or as little as you want. A teddy is apparently also known as a camiknicker and came to be in the 1940′s, but fell out of popularity shortly thereafter and didn’t resurface until the 1990s.

Costumes:
Lingerie Buying Guide

If you’ve ever celebrated Halloween, you’ve got this one covered. Costumes can be made from any random outfits and fabric you have laying around the house or can be purchased from a lingerie store. You’ll find all of the traditional nurse and teacher outfits, but also ones modeled after movie characters and sports references. Costumes are great for role playing and allow you to let go of inhibitions, since you’re technically “someone else.” Get something that you and your partner can both play along to and that flatters your shape.

Body Stockings:

Lingerie Buying GuideA body stocking is a one piece garment that covers your legs, torso and sometimes your arms. They are usually made of lace or mesh. While they are sexy, they can be difficult to put on and navigate when you’re about to have sex, because of this, I recommend you get a body stock that has an open crotch. This way you don’t have to remove the stocking to get busy. Due to the stretchy nature of mesh and lace, these typically come in a one size fits all. Be sure to get the plus size option if you happen to be a lady with a little more loving to give. The body stocking first appeared in 1861 when one was worn in the play Mazeppa. They were later seen on erotic and belly dancers and can now be seen in bedrooms across the world.

Corsets:

Lingerie Buying Guide

Everyone is pretty familiar with corsets. I mean, they’ve only been around for 500 years. They used to be worn in place of bras and provided waist shaping and structure for a dress. Now women wear them to be sexy or to play a part. However, there are still some women out there who practice waist training with corsets–this should be heavily researched before trying. Corsets can lace up the front or the back and usually have hook and eyes on the opposite side of the garment. They are traditionally shown in an ornate brocade fabric and have highlighted boning. The boning is what provides the garment structure and supports your body. Corsets look great paired with a thong or even with a pair of jeans. This one lingerie look that can transcend the bedroom.
